Welcome to the Jammal application.
The application aims to assist users in calculating "Jammal," a numerical system used for understanding this unique linguistic art form in the Arabic language.
Understanding Jammal
Jammal is a calculation system developed by the Arabs centuries before Christ. When they created the alphabet, they structured the letters as follows: (أ، ب، ج، د، هـ، و، ز، ح، ط، ي، ك، ل، م، ن، س، ع، ف، ص، ق، ر، ش، ت، ث، خ، ذ، ض، ظ، غ). Each letter is assigned a numerical value:
- أ=1
- ب=2
- ج=3
- د=4
- هـ=5
- و=6
- ز=7
- ح=8
- ط=9
- ي=10
- ك=20
- ل=30
- م=40
- ن=50
- س=60
- ع=70
- ف=80
- ص=90
- ق=100
- ر=200
- ش=300
- ت=400
- ث=500
- خ=600
- ذ=700
- ض=800
- ظ=900
- غ=1000
The letter تاء المربوطة (ـة) is calculated as هاء, given its written form and pronunciation at the end of words. Similarly, الألف المقصورة is considered as ياء due to its appearance.
The Calculation Method
The method for calculating Jammal for any sentence involves summing the values of all letters present in the word. For example, the Jammal calculation for the word "محمد" can be broken down as follows: Jammal of (م) + Jammal of (ح) + Jammal of (م) + Jammal of (د) = 40 + 8 + 40 + 4 = 92.
A well-known usage of Jammal can be found in a statement by Abdul Baqi Al-Omari, who marked his own year of passing by stating: [In a tongue that unifies God, Abdul Baqi tasted the cup of fate]. Breaking it down, the phrase (ذاق كأس المنون عبد الباقي) totals up to 1279, which corresponds to the Hijri year he anticipated his departure.
The Jammal application allows users to input and modify texts for which they want to calculate the values. The calculations occur in real-time upon text entry. Users can also conveniently share their text and corresponding calculations with peers and across other applications. Furthermore, the app provides additional statistics, including word counts, longest words, and detailed usage frequency per character in the text.
This tool proves beneficial for analyzing larger texts to determine their word and character counts, alongside their corresponding Jammal values, potentially enhancing overall text quality.
The application also adds an element of fun by allowing users to exchange Jammal values of personal names and those of family and friends. Additionally, it opens avenues for leveraging language usage in novel contexts.
The application is available exclusively in Arabic.
